What the Computer Science paper actually tests

Computer Science is one of the 200-mark Group-I subjects, so candidates sit two separate three-hour papers instead of one. Both papers follow the same selection rule: attempt four questions from Part-II by choosing two from each of two sections.

Paper-I: Programming and foundational concepts Worth 100 marks across MCQs and four subjective questions, two from each section. Based on past papers, Section-I covers software licensing, cybersecurity, C++ programming and debugging, object-oriented programming, and cloud security. Section-II covers algorithms and data structures: genetic algorithms, AVL trees, graph algorithms like Kruskal's minimum spanning tree, aspect-oriented programming, and compiler optimization.
Paper-II: Systems and applied computing Also worth 100 marks with the same two-from-each-section format. Section-A covers computer architecture (CISC versus RISC, superscalar processing), computer networks (IPv4/IPv6, routing protocols, error detection), and operating systems (process scheduling, memory management, file access). Section-B covers digital image processing, software engineering (requirement engineering, cloud strategy), and database systems (ER modelling, security, distributed design).

This is a genuinely broad paper. Paper-I rewards strong programming fundamentals and algorithmic thinking, while Paper-II rewards systems-level knowledge across networking, operating systems, and databases, so a narrow focus on just programming or just theory will leave real gaps on exam day.

Practise writing full answers under timed conditions, especially for programming questions like the C++ debugging task in past papers, since spotting logical errors quickly under exam pressure is a different skill from understanding the code when you have unlimited time to review it.
