Deputy Commissioner Salary in Pakistan (2026 Revised)
A Deputy Commissioner's basic pay is Rs. 68,330 a month as of the July 2026 pay revision. Search around and you'll find Deputy Commissioner salary figures anywhere from Rs. 60,000 to over Rs. 320,000, most of it outdated, some of it mixing up basic pay with total package, and at least one source citing an ad-hoc allowance rate that's simply wrong. Here's what's actually accurate right now.

Who Is a Deputy Commissioner, Exactly
A Deputy Commissioner is a BPS-18 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service, heading the civil administration of an entire district. It's the promotion that follows Assistant Commissioner, and it comes with real authority: overseeing law and order alongside police leadership, managing revenue collection, coordinating disaster response, and acting as the government's senior administrative face at district level. Where an AC runs a subdivision, a DC runs the whole district.
DC Basic Pay Under the 2026 Revised Scale
Same story as the Assistant Commissioner post: almost everything published about Deputy Commissioner salary predates the July 2026 revision, and one widely-shared salary calculator is even citing the wrong ad-hoc allowance rate entirely. Here's the actual change at BPS-18.
| Old Scale (BPS-2022) | Revised (BPS-2026) | |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum basic pay | Rs. 56,880 | Rs. 68,330 |
| Annual increment | Rs. 4,260 | Rs. 5,120 |
| Maximum basic pay | Rs. 142,080 | Rs. 170,730 |
That's roughly a 20 percent rise in minimum basic pay, consistent with the increase seen at BPS-17. On top of the new basic pay sits the 7 percent Ad-hoc Relief Allowance 2026, not the 25 percent figure that's circulating on at least one salary-calculator site.
Beyond Basic Pay: What a DC Actually Takes Home
The jump from AC to DC isn't just about basic pay. A DC typically moves into a fully furnished official residence at the district headquarters, gets an official vehicle with driver and a larger fuel allocation than at BPS-17, and picks up a broader support structure: personal security, clerical staff, and official assistants scaled to running a full district rather than a subdivision. Medical coverage extends to the officer's dependents, and utility costs at the official residence are generally covered in whole or in part by the government.
As with the AC post, there isn't one precise number that captures every DC's total compensation, since residence standard, security allocation, and district-specific allowances vary. Treat any single all-in figure you see elsewhere as a rough estimate rather than an official rate.
The Path to Deputy Commissioner
Promotion from AC to DC generally happens within three to seven years of service, depending on performance evaluations, seniority, and available postings, though some sources describe a wider six-to-ten-year window depending on the province and vacancy cycle. It isn't automatic. A PAS officer needs a strong service record and available DC postings in their province or federal allocation to move up on schedule.
What Comes After DC
From Deputy Commissioner, the next step is usually Commissioner or an equivalent BPS-19 posting, reached after another stretch of seven to ten years of combined service. Later grades bring additional administrative reach: Additional Secretary or equivalent at BPS-20, and ultimately Secretary-level BPS-21 or BPS-22 roles for the small fraction of officers who reach the top of the service.
