CSS MPT 2027: Date, Eligibility, Application Process, Syllabus and Rules
FPSC has announced the date and application details for the MCQs-Based Preliminary Test (MPT) for the CSS Competitive Examination 2027. Candidates must qualify this preliminary test before proceeding to the written examination, subject to the applicable CSS rules and eligibility requirements.
The CSS MPT is the preliminary screening test conducted by the Federal Public Service Commission before the written CSS Competitive Examination. For CE-2027, the MPT is being conducted in October 2026.
If you plan to appear in CSS 2027, the MPT application is the first deadline you need to track. The application deadline is 20 August 2026, while the test is now scheduled for 10 October 2026, after being rescheduled from the earlier announced date of 27 September 2026.
CSS MPT 2027 Date and Schedule
FPSC had originally fixed Sunday, 27 September 2026 for the MCQs-Based Preliminary Test for CSS Competitive Examination 2027. Following a public notice dated 19 August 2026, FPSC rescheduled the test to Saturday, 10 October 2026, in view of the announcement of a protest on the earlier test date.
CSS MPT 2027 Marks Distribution
The 200-mark MPT is divided among five areas. General Abilities carries the largest share, followed by English and General Knowledge.
CSS MPT 2027 Eligibility
Candidates applying for the MPT must meet the applicable eligibility requirements for the CSS Competitive Examination 2027.
Education
Candidates must hold a Bachelor's Degree with Second Division, subject to the applicable CSS rules.
Age Requirement
The standard CSS age requirement is 21–30 years, with applicable relaxation under the CSS rules.
CSS Attempts
Candidates must still have an available CSS competitive examination attempt.
Other Requirements
MPT qualification does not replace the remaining eligibility requirements for the CSS written examination.

The MPT application fee for CE-2027 is Rs. 250.
How to Apply for CSS MPT 2027
The MPT application is submitted online through the FPSC application system.
Open the FPSC Application Portal
Visit the FPSC Online Application Portal and access the online application system.
Enter Your Information
Complete the required personal and application information carefully. Check your CNIC and date of birth before submitting the form.
Generate the PSID
Generate the required 16-digit PSID for payment of the Rs. 250 MPT fee.
Pay the MPT Fee
Pay the fee through the payment facility specified by FPSC in the CE-2027 MPT notice.
Complete the Application
Return to the FPSC online system and complete the application process within the prescribed deadline.
CSS MPT 2027 Syllabus
The official MPT rules divide the 200-mark paper into English, General Abilities, General Knowledge, Urdu and Islamic Studies.

English — 50 Marks
The English portion covers vocabulary, grammar, usage and comprehension.
General Abilities — 60 Marks
General Abilities carries the highest share of the MPT paper. The official rules include basic arithmetic, algebra, geometry, logical problem solving, analytical abilities and mental abilities.
General Knowledge — 50 Marks
This section includes everyday science, current affairs and Pakistan affairs.
Urdu — 20 Marks
Urdu carries 20 marks and covers the areas specified in the official MPT rules.
Islamic Studies — 20 Marks
Islamic Studies carries 20 marks. The MPT rules provide an alternative of Civics and Ethics for non-Muslim candidates.
How Many Marks Are Required to Pass CSS MPT?
Candidates need at least 33% marks to qualify the MPT.
How Long Is the CSS MPT?
The MPT paper carries 200 marks and has a duration of 200 minutes.
This means candidates need to manage their time carefully while solving the MCQs.
How Many Times Can You Appear in the MPT?
The MPT rules provide that, subject to Rule 6, there is no limit on the number of attempts to appear in the Preliminary Test.
However, the rules also state that a candidate who has already availed all three chances to appear in competitive examinations is not eligible to apply or appear in the Preliminary Test.
Is CSS MPT Valid for Future CSS Exams?
No. The MPT rules state that the validity of the Preliminary Test is limited to the same year of the competitive examination.
A candidate qualifying the MPT for CE-2027 therefore cannot use that result as a qualification for a later CSS examination.

Candidates should download their MPT admission certificate through the FPSC online system.
Can the MPT Examination Centre Be Changed?
Candidates should select their examination centre carefully during the application process.
According to the CE-2027 MPT notice, the selected examination centre cannot be changed.
Is a Hard Copy Required for the MPT?
The MPT rules state that candidates do not need to submit a hard copy of documents for the Preliminary Test.

The marks distribution gives candidates a useful starting point. General Abilities carries 60 marks, while English and General Knowledge carry 50 marks each.
